Adler (Russia), 26.09.2021 The 2021 FIA F3 season officially draws to a close in Russia. Matteo Nannini endured another challenging race weekend in Russia, concluding his sophomore season in the series in 14th place with 44 points.
Having set the 19th fastest time in qualifying, the HWA RaceLab driver faced a rather difficult race on Friday, as Race-1 was brought forward due to the heavy rain forecast for Saturday. Nannini fought relentlessly and managed to end the 20-lap race in P16.
With the cancellation of Race-2 on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions, the Formula 3 drivers drove their second and last race of the season on Sunday morning. Nannini started from the 19th position, with the starting grid being determined by Friday’s qualifying results. After losing a number of positions in the first laps, the Forlì-based driver managed to climb into the Top 20 again and crossed the line in seventeenth place.
Matteo Nannini's season in FIA F3 with HWA RaceLab ends therefore in 14th place, with a see-sawing second half of the season. The 18-year-old is, however, the highest-placed Italian and the best of his team in the standings, boasting a third place and his maiden win in the series, as well as three rounds disputed in FIA Formula 2 in parallel.
“A difficult year is over,” said Matteo. “My expectations were very different from the results obtained during the season but various technical problems prevented me from scoring more wins. I'm truly gutted. As a racing driver I tried to give my best and I tried to get the best possible result. This enhanced my skills as a driver even more, as I have certainly shown my determination and that I can win with a fast car. Now I'll focus on my next career move"
